As we entered the year 2016, I was well aware that this would be a political season like no other. I promised myself not to place too much time or attention on political news reports. I know from experience, that this is one sure way to invite increased, unnecessary stress into my life. Well, it is now the middle of June, and try as I might, I cannot seem to shut out the noise. Never before have I heard so much vile and hateful rhetoric. I could never have imagined that a political party could be hijacked
This election season is one which will force the masses to grapple with right and wrong, truth and lies, and love and hate. It’s been said that the choice is between the “lesser of two evils”. Will our choices be strictly based on our political affiliation? As someone who tries to live by the rules and standards set forth in the Bible, I am convinced that everything we are seeing, is being orchestrated by God, as He sets the stage for His soon return. I will emphatically say that God is neither Republican nor Democrat, so let’s not allow ourselves to demonize people who may not be like minded in their political persuasion.
What must we do? The first thing we are required to do is pray earnestly for the entire process, those running for political office, and for God to take full charge of these elections. If we believe He is in charge, we must trust that the outcome, even if it does not go the way we would like it to, is final and according to His purpose. Next, we must keep on praying for those elected to various offices. God’s word admonishes us to pray for those in authority over us. Finally, we must remember that LOVE conquers all. Let us intentionally spread love everywhere we go, and look for opportunities to build up our communities and country.
